Some questions we get asked a lot about the board and their answers. If you can't find an answer to your question here, please contant Ahryantah or JAGuar.
General FAQ:
1. Q: Is this site devoted to the T.V. show "JAG"?
A: No, no, no. I can't understand how anyone who actually looked around this site for a few seconds would think that, but it has happened. So I repeat: JAG comes from the username of the owner of this board and is not in any way associated with the television program of the same name.
2. Q: Does this site have a certain theme?
A: Not really. Our graphics are fantasy-themed, but that's more at the whim of the graphics designer than any indication of what this board is about. We have a General board where you can talk about whatever you want. We also have boards for more specific topics. These topics reflect what members of the board have expressed an interest in having. We want this board to be YOUR board, so we will listen to suggestions for new boards (whatever the topic) and put it to a vote of all the members. If there is enough interest the board will be made. Inactive boards will be deleted after a period of time (two months at the least). We want to reflect the interests of our current and active members. Right now our specific boards include writing, music, movies, the NBA, games, and Stargate. Take a look around to see what we have to offer.
3. Q: Do I have to be a member to post?
A: Yes. Guests can view all the boards, but cannot post until they register.
4. Q: Is registering free?
A: Of course. It is a fairly easy process. All you need is a valid e-mail address. If you have any questions, please contact either Ahryantah or JAGuar.
5. Q: What are we allowed to talk about?
A: Anything you want. Everything. We have a couple small rules about what is appropriate and what is not - please see the Guidelines for those. As for topics, however, you can talk about whatever you want.
6. Q: How do I change my profile?
A: After you have logged in, there should be a button that says "Profile" at the top of the screen (underneath the dragon banner). Click on that and fill in the boxes you want.
7. Q: Who are the moderators?
A: We have three admin and two moderators who make sure the boards run smoothly and issue warnings to members who are not following the Guidelines.
Our admin (Council Members) are:
JAGuar, the owner of this board
Ahryantah
Maddik
Our moderators (Council Assistants) are:
KWG 14
MovieManiac
Please feel free to contact any of us through PM, e-mail, or IM if you have any comments, suggestions, or questions. Contact information for all of us is in our profiles.
8. Q: How do I become a moderator/Council Assistant?
A: At this time we are not looking for more moderators. If, however, we feel we need more in the future, we will post an announcement with further instructions about the application process.
9. Q: If I suggest a board and it gets made, will I be the moderator for it?
A: No. One of the current admin or moderators will be put in charge of the board. If you would like to become a moderator AND we are looking for new moderators, please fill out an application and tell us which board(s) you would be interested in moderating.
10. Q: What is D-Day?
A: D-Day is our solution to the fact that many people join and never post. We would rather have a board with a small number of members who actively post than a board with lots of members who never post. Therefore, we have deemed April 5th of every year "D-Day." Two weeks prior to D-Day we will send out an e-mail and PM to all members, as well as post an announcement on the boards. These announcements will request that you make a post signifying your intention to remain a member of the board. We know that some people aren't big posters, but all it takes is for you to respond to the announcement post on one of the boards with something like, "I want to stay." If you do that, you will remain a member. If we don't hear from you, we will assume you're not interested in visiting the board anymore and will delete your name. You get two weeks to respond, which we think is plenty of time.
11. Q: Are there exceptions to the D-Day rule?
A: A few. Members who join during the two-week period before D-Day are exempt and will not be deleted if they don't post. Also, members whom we know do not have current access to the Internet will also be exempt. For example, we have a member who will be at boot camp during this year's D-Day, and so he is exempt from deletion. If you know you aren't going to have access to a computer during the two weeks leading up to D-Day, please let us know in advance. We are very sympathetic when it comes to extenuating circumstances. D-Day is intended to weed out the people who join and never come back, not to penalize active members with busy schedules or unreliable Internet access. Also, current moderators and admin are exempt from D-Day. If it happens that you can't let us know not to delete you in time for D-Day, then please accept our apologies. It's not a perfect system. You are certainly more than welcome to sign back up.
12. Q: What else will get my name deleted?
A: Continuing to ignore the posted Guidelines (see Guidelines here) will get your name deleted and possibly your ISP banned. Abusers will be given three warnings. If the abuse continues after that, abusers will be deleted. Pornography of any sort will automatically get you deleted with no warnings.
13. Q: Are you going to send a bunch of spam to my e-mail?
A: Never. We hate spam. All that you will ever receive in your e-mail from us is the announcement about D-Day every year, and maybe a couple of other important announcements throughout the year. We are considering making a newsletter that will be sent out maybe twice a year, but we haven't decided on this yet. Most of our announcements will just be on the board itself, or listed in the calendar. We will only contact you through e-mail for very, very important things, not stuff like member's birthdays or anything like that.
FAQ for Specific boards
1. Q: What is that stuff under "Story Info"? (Dermians, Next Dimension, etc.)
A: This board was originally created for JAG to communicate with his cowriters on the stories they're writing. Now these boards are for discussion of these stories and information about them. This section is currently not open for additional boards. If you are a writer and you really want a board on here dedicated to your novel, then please talk to either Ahryantah or JAGuar. You must be a serious and active member before we will even consider adding you for this. If your novel board is inactive for more than a month, it will be deleted. We don't really like having boards of very limited interest taking up a lot of space.
2. Q: What are we allowed to post in the Writing section?
A: Anything you want. All we ask is that you please keep topics to their relevant boards. Post poetry in Poetry, post stories in Stories, etc. Writer's Lounge is for general discussion about writing or some aspect of writing. It is not another General board where you can talk about anything. You can post anything in any genre, including fanfiction from any fandom. We're fine with whatever you've written. We are not a critique board, so don't expect the kinds of in-depth comments you would get on a real critique board. But you will most likely get some general comments.
