Futures, Jimmy Eat World-
This CD starts out loud, slows down in the middle, picks back up, and ends strong. This is the 5th CD by JEW, and when you look at all of their albums, there is a big jump from album to album. Their beginning albums were very emotional, like "Clarity". Then they began to make more mainstream music, displayed in the album "Bleed American". "Bleed American was a very pop-rocky type of album, but still strong. Futures mixes the best of JEW and is probably some of their best work.
The CD has a stronger atmospheric sound to it. Many of the songs have a faint single note playing in the background to give the song a strong backbone. JEW decided to take a different look at music, and what did we get?
Well, the CD starts out with a barrage of relentlessly catchy songs like "Futures", "Just Tonight" and "Work".
The songs "Nothing wrong" and "Pain" show their strong rock capabilities, and shows they still can really rock out. Sorry if you are disappointed, but there isnt any strong solos on this album, but with the music, it isn't needed. The album begin's its closure with "Night Drive", telling the story of the singer and a girl enjoying a night in the car...alone...in park. And the final song on the album, "23" might not be a 16 minute long epic like album "Clarity" has, but it is an epic in its own right.
In conclusion, this album has a very polished feel to it. The songs are not as emotional as something of of "Clarity" might be, but the lyrics are strong in their own right. The album gives us a strong mix of upbeat songs and slow songs to keep your mood happy however you feel. This album has a good blend of rock music to keep fans and newcomers to JEW happy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
I am not the type to rate music, because one person can come along and love it, and one person can come along and hate it, I am just expressing my feelings and opinions on the CD, you can take it how you want.
-end
(PS: I am expecting the obligatory "JEW" comments on their initials...yeah yeah...)
