"Wonderful," Amandel shouted gleefully, "then we shall be wed tonight! Then, we will leave this place forever. Of course, I'm sorry we can never see your father again, but you do understand, don't you?"

"I will indeed miss my father, but I will be very glad to escape this kingdom. My brother, as you have seen, is not a nice person, and I will be glad to be away from him."
"I hope you will be happy with me, my dear."

They both jumped off the balcony and landed at the bottom, the both of them holding hands. The moon shined upon the ground. There was not one cloud in the sky.
They approached the end of the Kingdom.
"Here it is," said Lenelle. "Once we go into the forest, we are out of here, for good. We can get married outside the Kingdom, and I won't have the duty of being Queen."
"Have you ever been this close to leaving alone?" asked Amandel.
"I have never left the Kingdom at all," said Lenelle. "But I am not alone. I have you."
They stared into one anothers' eyes for the longest time. A bugle broke their silence. It was coming from the castle.
"Still time to go back," said Amandel.
"No," said Lenelle. "Not enough time in the world."
The two of them stepped out of the Forest of Procella, unaware of what may await them.

They walked into the forest quietly. Lenelle had heard that there were many creatures in the forest. Some were malevolent and some benign, but she had no idea which was which.
Amandel must have noticed the state of her nerves because he wrapped an arm around her shoulders and led her into the forest.

They walked for a while. Along the way, leaves ruffled thery didn't touch, and there were footsteps that weren't theirs. They finally reached a clearing and stopped to rest.
"What do you suppose was the purpose of that horn we heard as we left the kingdom?" asked Lenelle, starting to calm down from her fears.
"I don't know," said Amandel. "Probably a burglery of something."
"Well," said Lenelle. "Since we are fine after our long walk through the forest, I feel much better about traveling. Let's go."
Lenelle started to walk to a part of the woods, still further from her kingdom. Amandel immediatly shot up and ran to stop her.
"Wait!" cried Amandel, putting his hand upon her shoulder.
"What is it?" asked Lenelle.
"Let's go this way," he said, pointing a finger toward another direction of the circular clearing.
"What does it matter?" asked Lenelle cautiously.
"The way your going is the direction of where I used o live," said Amandel slowly.

"So?" asked Lenelle. "I would love to meet your family!"
Amandel turned away from her. In the silvery moonlight she could see that his face had turned paler than usual. "What is it?" she asked, concerned.
"It's just that...I ran away from my parents," said Amandel.
"Why?"
"No!" he cried, shaking his head so that his long golden locks fell disheveled around his shoulders. "I cannot tell you. You would hate me."
"Oh, my love, I could never hate you," said Lenelle. Still, a horrible feeling had settled into the pit of her stomach. What was Amandel's secret? Had he done murder? Was he a drunkard? Was he...was he already married?
"You would," Amandel moaned. "Please, I cannot bear for you to hate me. Let us please put this behind us."
"Amandel," said Lenelle softly, putting one hand on his shoulder. Shuddering, he drew her into a tight embrace. "I am your true love. You can tell me anything."
"All right," said Amandel, sighing. "The truth is...I am not noble, nor even a knight. My father shoes horses for a living. I ran away and stole a horse and some clothes, so that I could pretend to be noble."

"So it all comes together," said Sordes, coming from the shadows.
"How did you get here?" yelled Lenelle.
"I've been following you the whole way," he replied. "I am very sneaky. You didn't seem to hear the extra footsteps."
Lenelle and Amandel looked at one another, then back at Sordes.
"But anyhow," said Sordes. "You have revealed your secret. A peasant boy using my sister to become King, then to kill me!"
"Do you pull these things from your ass?" yelled Lenelle. "I mean honestly? How do you think of such nonsence?"
"Nothing but pure cunning," said Sordes. "Now Amendal! You and I will finish where we left off. And this time, we won't be rudely interupted."
Sordes took out his sword. Suddenly, the King advanced from the woods.
"Sordes," he said. "If you lay one finger on Amandel I shall kill you where you stand."
All of his men raised their crossbows.
"But father," he said. "You do not understand."
"I understand that you are a spoiled brat, now lay down your sword."
"Fine father," said Sordes. "I will not kill the man."
Sordes swung his sword around and cut the throat of Lenelle.
"If I cannot rule," he whispered. "Than neither can you."
Otium cried, "FIRE!"
Arrows came from every way. Most struck Sordes. He fell to the ground, dead.
Amandel rushed over to Lenelle's nearly dead body and held her in his arms.

"Don't ever forget me, my love," Lenelle whispered before closing her eyes, never to breathe again.
Amandel yelled and cried in pain. There was nothing left for him to live for anymore.

"Have at you, foul rogue!" cried Amandel, turning to Otium.
"What is the meaning of this?" cried Otium. "I just saved your life!"
"And you have taken from me the chance to avenge my lover's death," said Amandel, rage coursing through him. He pointed to Sordes's body. "I must find my vengeance somewhere. You must pay the blood debt your son left behind."
Otium's gaze hardened. "Have you forgotten that I just lost my youngest daughter? That the reason she is gone is because you brought out to this accursed woods? If there be any debt, it is yours to pay!"
"So it is a challenge you want?" hissed Amandel. "Then it is a challenge you shall get!" He reached down and pried Sordes's sword from the prince's still-warm hand, waving it threateningly at Otium.
Otium's archers raised their bows, but the king waved them away, pulling out his own sword. "I'll not let a peasant seek to dishonor me. A fight to the death, then."

The two walked into the center of the clearing, their swords drawn.
"This is a fair fight," said Otium. "When my guard shoots his rifle, the battle begins."
They put their swords together in the air, but still glaring into one another's eyes. For the longest time, it seemed nothing happened. Then suddenly, a shot fired. Amandel fell to the ground with blood trickling down his back.
"What a fool," laughed Otium. "The boy has no common knowledge."
Otium turned around to walk away as a sword drove into the back of his knee. Screaming in pain, Otium turned to see that Amandel was still alive, lying on the ground. Amandel quickly pulled out the sword as Otium fell to the ground. Amandel crawled upon Otium and lifted his blade above the king's chest. He brought it down into Otium's breatplate, going throught his heart.
"Yet it is I who's heart is truly broken," whispered Amandel to Otium.
A soldier ran over to Otium's lifeless body.
"But," he said. "You did it with a bullet in your back!"
"My love for Lenelle is as undying as my life," said Amandel. "I could've killed him with a bullet in my brain."
"Well then," said another soldier. "We'll see what the Queen has to say about this."
Amandel was raised onto their shoulders, and carried back toward the castle.

Amandel was brought before Animosis. She was suprised, but she tried not to show it.
"What is the meaning of this?" She demanded.
"Your highness," one of the archers said bowing, "this young man has murderedyour father. Your brother and sister are also dead, but it was your father who slew Sordes for murdering Lenelle."
Animosis had to sit down. A tear fell from her eye as she looked at young Amandel.
"Take him to the dungeons while I decide what to do with him," she was able to say.
The archers bowed and left, carrying Amandel away.
Animosis sat in her chair, sadness overwhelming her. Her entire family was taken away from her in one night. She couldn't deal with Amandel when her judgement was clouded by her grief. She would deal with him tomorrow.

Amandel sat in the dungeon covering his wound with leaves that grew outside the barred window. His shackles were weak, but not weak enough to break. He looked to the ground at tried to think. It was hard to do so with the thoughts of his lost Lenelle filling his mind. He let out a cry of rage as one of the bricks of which the shackles were attached came from the wall. His hands were still in the shackles, but now he could movie in a 180 degree radius.
He picked up the brick that had fallen from the wall and tried to use it was a hammer to break his shackle chain that was still connected to the wall. The chain broke in the middle, making him able to move wherever he wanted around the cell, even though he still had a brick hanging from his right arm.
He pushed as hard a he could to get the brick in betwenn the space of the bars in the window. After doing this, he turned the brick horizonatally and pulled. The bars came out of the window.
"Luckily Otium was dumb enough to make low quality cells," thought Amandel to himself.
He used the brick to break the chain the brick was attached to. Still with cuffs on both hands, but otherwise free, he squeezed himself through the window. He sprinted as fast as he could toward the forest. When he reached the inside, he turned back and saw the Royal Stables. He ran as fast as he could to one of the horses, mounted it, and rode off back into the forest. The quietness of the night was all around him.

Animosis watched Amandel escape into the night. She had taken refuge in the shadows of the stables, with the moon as the only source of light. Her horse laid beside her and closed his eyes as she brushed his gleaming coat.
She would have called the guards if she had the strength to care. She knew that her family was dead, and that he was part of the cause, but she also knew that the real fault was with her dead brother. He had been so absorbed in being king that he was blinded as to what was truly important.
And while Amandel rode off into the night, Animosis sat in the stables and finally fell asleep against her horse.

Amandel rode as quickly as he could, still looking behind him often, thinking he would be followed. He rode past the clearing with the bloodstained grass and on and on forever. He came upon a dirt road that led to a new town. He walked and...
...halted in the middle of the road. He smiled, for it reminded him of the love he once lost.

The bittersweet memories filled him in a rush. And he had to sit down. His smile was lost and he began to cry. His lost love was still with him, somehow, even after her unfair death. He still did not believe that she had been avenged, but he would get it. Oh, how he would get it....
